Reciting the Pacifying Pandemic Dharani with Kindness and Compassion

Surely, one must accept that

The single most important thing

That we as individual[s] have,

Or we as the world have,

Is what we call “mind.”

If we are going through calamities,

Pain, uncertainties, all kinds of challenges,

If we look deep,

We will know that this is all,

In one way or another,

Caused by our mind,

Our intention, our motivation, greed, pride,

So on and so forth.

So let us use this very mind

To counter our difficulties,

With right motivation,

With good intention,

And [in a way] that is not just being so self-centered,

And that is not just thinking about today,

But thinking about all beings,

Thinking about the long term,

Thinking about everyone.

With this kind of motivation,

Whatever we do,

Be it a simple offering of a flower petal

Or chant[ing] the dharani,

It does have an impact.

So it is said

By the great Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of the past.

So, let us all,

With this kind, compassionate,

And caring mind and attitude,

Recite this dharani.
